Moki Dugway and Valley of the Gods, UT
The breathtaking Moki Dugway winds 1,200 feet from top to bottom on three miles of graded gravel at an 11% grade. The Moki Dugway was constructed in the 1950s by the Texas Zinc mining company and was initially used to transport uranium ore from the Fry Canyon mines to a processing mill near Mexican Hat. It is located on UT 261 and connects US 163 and Utah 95. The remainder of Utah 261 is paved. There are no guardrails so take caution as you navigate its steep, unpaved, but sharp switchbacks. And, yes, I’d drive it again in a heartbeat! Moki Dugway provides stunning views of some of Utah’s most beautiful scenery, including the Valley of the Gods and Monument Valley. There's a few photos from Moki looking towards Valley of the Gods. Next time, we're driving the 17-mile road through Valley of the Gods.
